Calendar of Events

United Synagogue Youth (USY) and Kadima are organizations for Jewish teens and pre-teens from across the area and across the country to meet each other, hang out together, and make lifelong friendships while learning about and experiencing Judaism. USY and Kadima are the youth groups associated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.  It is never too late to join. Contact Ariel Lippa for more information or for an application. Make sure you are on the mailing list.  Please, no calls on Shabbat or Yom Tov.

Schedule of Monthly Activities:

The following is a list of activities for USY (9th to 12th grade), Kadima (6th-8th grade) and El Al (4th-5th grade). Please share this information.

USY (9th to 12th grade).

PBJC USY is truly up and running. The Purim Prom and Purim Carnival were absolute hits! To give everyone a little recap, the Purim Prom was a formal event, which took place at the Pine Brook Jewish Center. Over three hundred formally dressed USYer’s “cleaned up” and danced the night away, in what was one of PBJC’s most successful hosting of a regional USY event yet! From our own chapter over 20 members attended and had a great time. This was definitely some kind of a record!  Thanks to DJ Mike Demby and Jason Goldstein for simply “bringing the down the house” with great music! A special thanks to all the PBJC chaperones/volunteers for all your help.

As for the Purim Carnival, to put it simply, PBJC’S 2008 Purim Carnival was the best yet! If you noticed, the outside parking lot was packed to capacity and most importantly, everyone had a great time! We hope to make our 2009 Purim Carnival even better. Thank you to everyone who dedicated their time and helped out!

On another great note, PBJC USY is growing faster then ever. With 7 new members joining since January, we have doubled our membership numbers. PBJC USY welcome’s our newest member Leland Greenfield to our chapter. Many new activities, fundraisers, and social events are in the works as well. Our April 16-17 “Vacuum the Chumatz” fundraiser was a success. While USY’ers vacuumed each car in preparation of Passover, PBJC carpool drivers helped donate money to PBJC USY/Tikun Olam(United Synagogue Youth’s Charity). Kola Kavod (great job!) USY’ers!

On May 10 we are having our BonFire event, where USY’ers and 8th graders will hang out with friends, sing songs, and makes smores by the fire. PBJC USY also has their regional closing dance on May 17th in Metuchen. Lastly, a board meeting will be held to elect the new leaders for PBJC USY’S 2009 Executive Board. Anyone interested in holding a position please contact me at pinebrookusy4@gmail.com. PBJC USY is truly making moves. After coming on board in January, I am proud to say that PBJC USY is looking better then it ever has before! All you high school students COME AND SEE WHY!!!

See you all soon!

Kadima (6th- 8th)

It is my honor and pleasure to announce some exciting news! PBJC Kadima was honored and recognized by the Hagilil region for largest increase in membership! We are now the third largest chapter in all of New Jersey! It has been an amazing ride since coming on board in January and the growth of this chapter has exceeding what anyone could have imagined in such a short period of time. I would like to thank all of those Kadimanicks who have attended one of the awesome events so far and I am confident our chapter will continue to grow.

In April, the Kadimanicks took part in the first annual American Idol Ice Cream Social. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders came together and watched one of the best shows on TV! Although the singers on American Idol are pretty talented nothing compares to the Karaoke singers that PBJC Kadima has. Ethan Fox, Ben Leigh, Mattie and PJ Picon took home the honors as the best Karaoke singers PBJC has to offer! This event could not have been possible with out the help of Charlene Rosenbloom, Jamie Mach, Andrea Oris and Jane Spielberger. Thanks ladies, you are the best ice cream scoopers I have ever seen!

Save the Date: Kadima Kookout- Come celebrate the end of the school year with an awesome party, Kadima style! Dance your pants off! Shoot some hoops, enjoy great food and much much more! See everyone May 25th from 11AM-1PM at the PBJC parking lot!

Thanks again for a great year! If you would like to join Kadima please email Jared Rosenbloom at KADIMAROCKS@gmail.com

We hope you and your families enjoyed using the beautiful glassware the kids made last month at Glassworks! We had a tremendous turnout, and everyone made either a beautiful bowl or a Passover scene on glass. A special thank you goes out to Pam Ferlazzo for helping to chaperone the children. Thanks, Pam!

Everyone agreed that The Lion King was a fantastic show! Our bus full of excited parents and kids had a great time in the Big Apple, and we thank all the parents who helped chaperone any “spare” children!

It’s hard to believe that the year is done, but get ready! On Sunday, May 18, from 12:45-2:15, we are having our End of the Year party! All 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are invited! That’s right, we will welcome in the new class, and bid farewell to the 5th graders as they graduate to Kadima! Just bring your membership application and dues check for next year, and join us. It’s free! DJ Barry will provide music and games. Win prizes! Eat delicious snacks! Be with your friends from all three grades! Whatever you do, don’t miss out!!!
